Some day this will be funny...

today was not that day. What is it with throwing things in the toilet? How can that be THAT enjoyable?

The perpetrator moments after the crime. "What? I didn't do anything?"

Just a few pic's of Asher enjoying his strawberries yesterday. He doesn't look like a baby anymore :(

And this is how we both feel after swimming lessons.

Mama babin' soot

Asher assigns ownership to every item in our home, mama shoe, dada shirt, ah-ah book, etc. The other day I came in and he was "mowing" with "mama babin' soot" (bathing suit) on like a cape.

Crazy hair!

My blog has become all about Asher, but then again, that's why you really read it anyway, isn't it? The other night after the first swim lesson, Asher was so exhausted that I put him to bed without a bath. I figured all the chlorine in the pool would kill any germs hanging around. When I got home from school, he was waking up from his nap where he had been sweating for an hour. The combination of pool water and sweat made for some crazy hair. Take a look:

We are swimming!

Tonight was our first swimming lesson at the Y, and Asher loved most of it. Logan set all this up and has excitedly been hyping me up about it. Well, as it turns out, Logan has an engagement session in Boone tonight, how convenient. Asher loves the water and tried to jump right in without me while I was attempting to document the occasion on film. Where is your photographer husband when you need him? Oh yeah, he's in Boone. We started the lesson watching Elmo do all the things we were going to do. Asher has never seen Elmo and was instantly enamored. He asked for Elmo for the whole rest of the lesson. We hokie-pokied with Elmo and rowed for rainbows, and even were frogs kerplopping from the side.

Asher is the youngest in the class, and he was a tad inattentive. He didn't want to row for the balls, he wanted to throw them. He didn't want to kerplop, he wanted to slide in like an eel. He didn't want to hokie-pokie, he wanted to hold Elmo. He did learn to expertly hold onto the side and even crawl out on his own. We go back on Thursday and hopefully he will be in a more learning frame of mind.

Ready to swim, or really, run away from Mommy in the crowded parking lot:

"Oh, we're not getting in yet?"

Kix, kid tested...

When we have a crazy morning at our house, it never falls on a weekend when we can laugh about the events, it always happens on a school morning when I have to be there early. Last Tuesday, my principal asked the teachers to be at school early because they were holding an election that day. Our school is a polling place so we have people wandering around the building trying to find the gym. Someone in charge of planning had the great idea to start SOL's (our end of year tests), on this particular day. Another rant altogether that I'm not even going to go into.

So I get Asher up, play with him for a while and notice his diaper is wet even though I just changed him. I take the diaper off, walk to deposit it in the pail in the bathroom and in that time, Asher manages to pee not once, but twice, in two different locations. I put the diaper on, and start cleaning the carpet (yes, they should have charged us a pet deposit). About halfway through this chore, I hear from the kitchen, "keex, keex" and the pictures below will detail what I saw.

Asher trying to "clean up" the full box of Kix he'd dumped on the floor:

He didn't like the way they felt on his feet, so he sat down, pulled them off, and ate them:

So, needless to say, I was lucky to make it to school before the bell rang, much less early.

'Og? Cack, cack, cack? Man?

About a week ago, we realized that some of Asher's bath toys had become a harbor for disgusting slimy black mold. This is particularly disturbing because they are the kind that you suck water into, and it squirts back out, and he likes to suck on the holes. So I threw the offenders into the trash in the bathroom. I could tell he was very concerned when I did this, and I told him, "They're yucky, we have to throw them in the garbage." So he says, "gabetch?" And I said, "Yes, they're dirty."

He tried to save them from the bathroom trashcan, so I moved them to the kitchen, which has a lid. He contined to check on them every few minutes and even tried to sneak them to freedom. That day's trash is long gone, but he keeps checking, saying "og? (frog) cack, cack, cack? (duck)" We also threw away a mechanical snowman that he broke, and he says, "man? gabetch?" all the time. It's kind of sad for him, but shows that he has the memory of an elephant.

Making sure they are still there:
